Today, it is poised to grow into a 7500+ crore company, supplying products to more than 1.5 lakh plus households through a well-connected network of 421 distributors and 40,000+ retailers.

Gyan is synonymous with freshness, trust, and consistent quality of dairy products that source, process, market, and sells a full line of fresh, fermented, and value-added dairy products.

Headquartered in Lucknow, Gyan dairy is a well-recognized name in the dairy industry, touching a turnover of over 1000 crore in fiscal 2021-22. Its popular dairy products include full cream, toned, cow, ghee, curd, butter paneer, lassi, and masala chaach, among others. The brand's tagline "Vishwaas Se Bhara" stands true to its theme 'Shuddh aur taaza, Gyan ka waada'.

Constant development and upgradation of products

According to Venkat.S, vice president - sales and marketing, Gyan Dairy has always been at the forefront of constant development and upgradation of products. "We have expanded our product portfolio into sweets as a new category and introduced Andaaz range of Indian sweets. We got a lot of acceptance during COVID, as we launched Peda and Kaju katli during Diwali 2020. We saw the trend of people preferring packed products, which are safe and hygienically packed. This has given us the idea of entering this new product category."

Moving on, the company has also put up a huge khoya plant, which will felicitate their khoya market and take care of manufacturing. He calls this as their one big product strategy. He shares, "Under Paneer, we are aggressively expanding, strengthening our packaged paneer sales big time. In the future, we are also looking at getting into dairy whitener as a bigger category. We have many exciting products to come up with, like milkshakes, Gulab jamun mix etc."

Recent disruptions and trends

Venkat states that we have seen changing purchase dynamics and a growing need for hygienically packed and quality branded products. According to him, the recent trend in the market is on hygienically packed products and contactless delivery of dairy products in digital form. Further, he has also observed people shifting towards hygienically processed packed products with no human touch.

He informs, "Keeping in mind this trend, during the pandemic, Gyan launched Gyan Fresh App that provides milk and other dairy products to the consumers directly at their doorsteps with zero human contact. We have also launched new fully automated Paneer and Khoya plants to cater to the increased demand of hygienic dairy-based products."

Speaking about their participation at Annapoorna - ANUFOOD India, Venkat.S says, "We will focus more on the B2B business here. We have the largest Khoya plant in India and will soon launch the largest paneer plant. Khoya has been a very inconsistent product, and we saw the potential in this market. So, we are changing the market dynamics, especially regarding Khoya and Paneer as this part of the market is aggressive with a huge consumption."

Apart from Khoya and Paneer, the company will showcase its dairy whitener, Gulab jamun mix and Butter.

Commenting on their expectations from the show, Venkat.S says, "We are excited and looking ahead to a great show here; we will exhibit our quality product range and upcoming projects to the audience."

He further shares, "The strengthening of our business is happening in three major areas:

  • Expansion of geography

  • Expansion of product range

  • Addition of new business vertical

We have a robust and aggressive expansion plan; we are aggressively moving eastwards and strategically looking at eastern UP and Bihar markets. We already have a sizable market share in UP and are now expanding towards the East, which will be our future market. These markets offer opportunities and have a lot of potential. With Anufood, we are looking to communicate the scale and growth of our business to further explore more B2B customers who can help us grow even more rapidly."

The way ahead

According to Venkat.S, the company has constantly been growing and the numbers indicate that there has been a consistently 40% growth in the last 3 to 4 years. "Gyan as a company has been very aggressive in its expansion. Today, we have a plant in Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur(upcoming), enabling us to expand our footprint in the East, which is still to be explored. With respect to the product category, we are launching many products soon coming in the market. Going forward we are moving towards Bihar with Northeast being our focus market with the retail products. We vision ourselves as the billion-dollar company by 2025," he concludes.
