Specialty chemicals company LANXESS India has won the prestigious Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) award for Water Management for 2020 for its commitment and significant achievements in Water Conservation in its manufacturing operations in Nagda Madhya Pradesh. The award was presented to LANXESS on Saturday, 28 August in a virtual ceremony.

Over the years, the company has made consistent efforts to improve its water utilization at the site by implementing innovative technologies and best practices for water conservation. LANXESS’ Nagda site has a full-fledged Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant that treats sewage water from the colonies around and renders it fit for production processes.

Strengthening its commitment towards sustainability, LANXESS commissioned a wastewater post-treatment plant with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility in 2012 at its Nagda site. This plant treats the discharge from the existing effluent treatment plant so that no liquid effluents are discharged from the site. The water recovered from the wastewater post-treatment plant with ZLD is used for the production processes. This is a significant step in the Indian chemical industry and sets a new benchmark in sustainability.

Commenting on the recognition, Neelanjan Banerjee, vice chairman and managing director, LANXESS India, said, “As a responsible corporate citizen, LANXESS India is committed to creating sustainable water management solutions and conserving water resources. This recognition inspires us to strengthen our efforts towards sustainability further.”
