Mespack partners with Mondi for sustainable paper flexible packaging developments

The partnership opens up an ongoing collaboration for the development of sustainable flexible packaging made from Mondi’s material and produced on Mespack’s machines

Both Mespack and Mondi have already worked on a stand-up pouch made from paper and are currently working on new solutions for products that require a high barrier

Although both companies have previously collaborated, by signing this partnership they are committing to a continuous collaboration to bring recyclable solutions to the market with increasing demand for this type of packaging. In fact, the innovation teams of both companies are currently working on a new stand-up paper pouch.

Mondi was already a preferred partner of Mespack in the production of flexible packaging paper structures with all Mespack machines. Recently they have jointly developed a recyclable stand-up pouch made from Mondi’s FunctionalBarrier Paper 95/5, which is produced on a Mespack horizontal fork-fill-and-seal machine. This co-creation is an impressive example of effective collaboration between the partners to develop a better and more sustainable solution for flexible packaging.

Mespack’s new machinery can be easily adapted to operate with sustainable structures. Furthermore, machines that are already installed in customers’ operations, can be retrofitted with special modules for this purpose. Both Mespack and Mondi aim to provide sustainable solutions for FMCG companies that want to adapt their products to new market trends while achieving their business goals.

With the signing of this partnership agreement, the two leading companies strengthen their relationship to continue working together at Mespack’s Innovation Centre (MIC) to resolve the issues emerging from the substitution of plastic with paper-based structures. The alliance enables Mespack to test various different material structures and paper grades, so that Mespack equipment can run with any paper grade.

Thanks to Mespack Innovation Centre (MIC), customers who want to test recyclable structures can do so together with experts in a controlled environment and without having to interrupt production in their facilities. Consequently, customers obtain reliable and accurate results by gathering knowledge and receiving final test reports.

In the words of Guillem Lloret, Mespack’s Innovation Manager, “This formal joining of forces between Mespack and Mondi is a breakthrough for the flexible packaging sector, which must reinvent itself to respond immediately to the requirements of customers and end consumers“.

Eirini Stafyla, Application Engineering Platform Leader in Mondi explains, “Close collaboration with reliable partners is key to success in the race for more sustainable packaging. The transition to a different, more sustainable packaging solution often necessitates modifications on the packaging line, making it essential for both parties to work closely together. Mespack has been very proactive in proposing technical solutions to guarantee a successful transition, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and innovation.”

A greener world is everyone’s responsibility, and Mespack, being a vital part of the flexible packaging industry, plays a key role in developing of new habits and processes that bring flexible packaging into a circular economy. The company is convinced that this is possible with the combined efforts of all partners in the packaging industry.
