Domino to launch 1200dpi hybrid printing module and print inspection system at Labelexpo Americas

FoodTechBiz Desk

Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) is excited to announce the launch of a new 1200dpi digital print engine for integration into flexographic lines, addressing the increasing demand for digital hybrid printing and finishing. Developed to support label converters in delivering high-resolution digital printing, including variable data applications, the N730i Integration Module is based on Domino’s latest Generation 7 platform, providing up to 1200dpi print at high speeds.

Labelexpo attendees are invited to join the launch presentation for the N730i Integration Module on the Innovation Stage, booth 2043, on Tuesday, 10 September 2024, at 3:00 PM UTC+5.

“Brands are requesting high-quality labels with quick turnaround times, and we set out to provide converters with an industry-leading digital hybrid printing solution that would give them a competitive advantage,” explains Michael Matthews, product manager – Digital Color, Domino. “The modular approach of the N730i Integration Module enables converters to create a cost-effective, future-proof printing and finishing line with an OEM partner of their choice. We are proud to be one of the few providers to offer this level of flexibility.”

The N730i Integration Module allows converters to collaborate with their preferred OEM partner and Domino to create a customized digital hybrid printing and finishing solution tailored to their configuration preferences.

The N730i Integration Module utilizes the proven N730i print engine, leveraging Domino i-Tech features, BITSTAR printhead technology, and proprietary TPO-free inks, to produce fine details, including micro text and CJK characters, with exceptional quality. This technology stack delivers high-resolution print at speeds of up to 70 metres per minute across all colours – including consistent printing of high-opacity white at top speed.

In addition to the well-known benefits of hybrid printing, such as increased productivity and improved efficiency, the N730i’s Sunrise DFE offers real-time, inline RIP for labels featuring customisation and variable data, making print runs with multiple SKUs straightforward, with no need for offline preparation.

“We are thrilled to present the N730i Integration Module at Labelexpo and look forward to partnering with our customers and their chosen OEM partners,” says Matthews. “Together, we will create powerful hybrid lines that combine Domino’s cutting-edge digital technologies with flexographic printing to deliver the best of both worlds. It’s fantastic to see our digital printing expertise benefiting customers across various industries, enabling converters to achieve new levels of flexibility and efficiency.”

The new R-Scan

Labelexpo Americas also introduces the R-Scan inline monitoring and print inspection camera system for Domino’s N730i digital label press, developed in collaboration with print inspection expert Lake Image Systems, a Domino Group Company.

Attendees of Labelexpo Americas are invited to visit Domino at booth 5821 for a demonstration of the R-Scan as part of an N730i roll-to-roll digital label printing and inspection solution.

The R-Scan features a comprehensive suite of print quality and variable data assurance tools to help minimize waste and provide peace of mind to converters. The system offers automated monitoring of print quality, color deviations, and registration at high speeds, with minimal setup time and supervision required. Rapid error detection enhances overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by reducing waste, rework, and associated downtime, while helping converters deliver reliable label quality and secure repeat business.

Matthews explains, “Our high-resolution and variable data printing expertise, combined with the cutting-edge technology from Lake Image Systems, gives converters the assurance they need to meet the high-quality standards of label production required to enhance production efficiency. The new R-Scan monitoring and print inspection camera system ensures a significant reduction in waste and provides the confidence necessary to increase unattended operation of the press.”

Tony McNulty, chief product officer, Domino, concludes, “We are delighted to have collaborated with Lake Image Systems to bring the R-Scan monitoring and print inspection camera system to our digital printing customers. This is another excellent example of how our combined skills and expertise allow us to ‘Do more’ for our customers, with integrated solutions that provide consistent quality with minimal waste.”
