FSSAI hosts one-day workshop on Codex

On May 24, 2024, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India - National Codex Contact Point (NCCP), with support from the Chamber of Advancement for Small and Medium Business (CASMB) and venue partnership with ITCFSAN, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on Codex. The event aimed to enhance understanding and application of Codex principles in maintaining safety standards in international trade.

The workshop commenced with an enlightening session on the "Basics of Codex & its Relevance to SPS-TBT" by S.P. Karthikeyan, Joint Director, FSSAI. He provided a comprehensive overview of Codex principles and their critical role in ensuring food safety in global markets.

Following this, Monica Puniya, Deputy Director, FSSAI, led an insightful session on the "Principles of Standard Setting Process in Codex." Ms. Puniya detailed the systematic approach and criteria employed in developing Codex standards, highlighting their importance in maintaining high food safety standards.

The third session, presented by Jaspreet Kaur, Assistant Director, FSSAI, and Manpreet Kour, Technical Officer, FSSAI, focused on the "Role of NCCP in the Participation of Codex Related Work." They emphasized the crucial involvement of the National Codex Contact Point (NCCP) in facilitating India’s active contributions to Codex activities.

Alka Rao, Advisor, FSSAI, served as the main guest for the event. In her address, she underscored the significance of Codex standards in ensuring food safety and protecting consumer health, reiterating FSSAI's commitment to upholding and promoting these standards.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Vaidehi Kalzunkar, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants, and facilitated the felicitation of the esteemed guests.

This workshop highlighted FSSAI's dedication to advancing food safety standards in India and its proactive participation in global food safety initiatives.
