Maya Pistola Agavepura launches its homegrown craft spirit in Bangalore, Karnataka

FoodTechBiz Desk

Maya Pistola Agavepura, India’s first homegrown aged agave spirit launches its craft spirit in Bangalore, Karnataka. Crafted from Wild Agave Americana growing naturally in the Indian Deccan Plateau, Maya Pistola Agavepura is an artisanal 100% Agave Spirit, produced in small batches. The versatile spirit has already launched in Goa, Maharashtra, and Delhi is all set to launch in Bangalore, Karnataka soon.

Pistola’s aged agave spirit offers up an additive-free, non-adulterated spirit, which is made without any artificial coloring whatsoever. Each sip of Maya Pistola Agavepura represents the untamed and untampered essence of the wilderness. Made for the conscious rebel, Pistola encourages one to find their inner truth and inculcates a lifestyle that leads to their most authentic self.

With three variants — Joven, Reposado, and Rosa—Maya Pistola Agavepura has each expression that caters to different occasions. With hints of Citrus, Cooked Agave, Peppermint, Green Peppercorn, Coriander, and Honey, the Joven is great in highballs, with tonic or to simply shoot. Made to enjoy chilled or with some ice and orange peel, the Reposado is curated with notes of Butterscotch, Orange, Marmalade, Cooked Agave, Vanilla, and Cocoa and is aged for four - six months. And, with its smooth, floral minerality that comes from resting two-three months in ex-KRSMA Cabernet Sauvignon barrels that brings out notes of Strawberry Jam, Plum, Black Cherries, Vanilla Bean, Clove and White Pepper, the Rosa can be enjoyed on ice, or as a spritz. Each spirit is unique and each bottle has its own character.

Commenting on the launch, Rakshay Dhariwal, founder, Maya Pistola Agavepura, said, “We are excited to announce the launch of our product in Bangalore. During the lockdown we saw a demand for the spirit increasing across our bars, and sourcing the premium liquor from other countries was very challenging. Given the new-found time in the pandemic, we decided to work on bringing something exciting to the market—a high-quality 100% agave spirit, that makes for a better, purer choice of drink. We are excited to be carving out a niche in the Indian craft spirit game by offering something unique and high-quality to our discerning clients in Bangalore. As our brand evolves and makes waves through the country, we believe that Maya Pistola Agavepura will forge a new category of agave spirits for the people of this bustling metropolis.”

The agave plant is traditionally native to Central Mexico, and due to its complex flavors, agave spirits are part of Mexico's heritage. Agave spirits such as Mezcals and Tequilas are produced by cooking, crushing, fermenting, and distilling the agaves. In Mexico, tequila and mezcal are protected categories and must come from certain states. Fortunately, India’s rich red-black volcanic soil is similar to Mexico and serves as an ideal semi-arid micro-climate for Agave Americana to grow wild in the Deccan Plateau, thereby allowing us to produce our 100% Agave spirits.

The brand’s mascot, Maya Pistola, is the re-imagined Goddess of Agave reincarnated in an Indian context and helps tell a tale of how agave came to India’s Deccan Plateau. As a one-of-a-kind Indian Agave spirit in a market that has long been about predominantly Scotch and Rum, Pistola is here to break boundaries and stereotypes. We are excited to announce that this brand will now be available in Bangalore’s leading bars and retail stores.
