Brenntag, the global market leader in chemicals and ingredients distribution, announced the opening of its new state-of-the-art green warehouse in India, the first site of the Brenntag Group to achieve the prestigious EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

EDGE is a globally recognized green building certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. It is designed to help buildings achieve resource efficiency in energy, water, and materials to achieve the goal of making buildings more sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly. This certification marks a major milestone in Brenntag’s commitment to sustainability and sets a new benchmark for sustainability practices within the chemical industry.

The new warehouse is in the city of Sonipat, about 50 kilometers from Central Delhi, in the Northern State of Haryana, India and it will serve over 70 percent of Brenntag’s customers in Northern India efficiently and sustainably, which were motivating factors for consolidating all three existing warehouses in North India under the new warehouse facility.

“We are thrilled to be able to push the envelope to reduce our environmental footprint with our green warehouse,” said Dr. Alok Sharman, managing director of Brenntag India. “During the conceptualization phase, we focused not only on selecting an optimal location with excellent transport connections but also on incorporating sustainability aspects. The warehouse features specially insulated walls to enhance energy efficiency, and we maximize the use of natural lighting to reduce energy consumption. We implemented a well-designed natural ventilation system to minimize the need for air conditioning, even in the hot climate of India. Additionally, we installed solar panels and a water harvesting system to conserve resources.”

The Brenntag green warehouse is a single-story facility with ambient and cold storage space as well as ancillary office space to serve our customers from various industries such as Pharma, Nutrition, Beauty and Care, Material Science, and others.

“Sustainability has been at the heart of what we do at Brenntag for many years, as it is an essential part of our strategy and our purpose. The Brenntag India green warehouse further cements our commitment to a comprehensive sustainability framework, aligned with our future-oriented ESG strategy,” said Dr Andreas Kircherer, vice president, Sustainability Brenntag Group.
