Lamipak, a global manufacturer and technical service provider of aseptic packaging, has taken major strides towards sustainability. Since settling in Kunshan, a bustling industrial city adjacent to Shanghai, China, in 2014, the company's sterile packaging production building and automated warehouse have undergone green upgrades, culminating in LEED O+M Gold certification in September 2021. Following a series of expansions, both projects successfully achieved LEED O+M Platinum recertification in March 2023.

Encompassing a massive 25,000 square meters, the two projects can accommodate more than 500 employees. The company particularly excelled in the "Water Efficiency" and "Indoor Environmental Quality" categories of the LEED standard, demonstrating Lamipak's unwavering commitment to creating a comfortable and efficient working environment for its employees. Notably, the projects achieved full scores in the "Material & Resource" category, a testament to the company's responsible operations. Lamipak sources paper board for its packages and products from suppliers certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council™) or PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), ensuring responsible forest management. Additionally, the company has installed solar panels on the roofs of the expansion parts, significantly reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.

Lamipak is dedicated to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Its 2022 Sustainability Report reveals that the company has already made a 12.2% reduction in energy consumption since 2020. In addition to the LEED-certified factory and warehouse in Kunshan, Lamipak is investing in a new R&D center that focuses on developing the next generation of sustainable products. The R&D center aims to reduce the carbon footprint by 50% and produce 100% recyclable products.

What is LEED certification?

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, it is a green building evaluation system. LEED helps companies meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals and provides investors with a robust and globally recognised green building framework to measure and manage real-estate performance.

Owners and project teams choose LEED certification to inform, benchmark, and celebrate their sustainability goals and achievements. LEED certification is awarded to buildings that reduce their climate impact; enhance human health; protect and restore water resources; protect and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services; promote sustainable and regenerative material cycles, and enhance the overall quality of life for the community.
