At the recently concluded PackMach Asia Expo 2024, held from 23 to 25 October at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Mumbai, Mespack India made a strong impression with its advanced packaging solutions. The event, which ran concurrently with drink technology India and World Tea & Coffee Expo, provided a comprehensive platform for packaging and processing technology in the food, beverage, and allied industries. Mespack India’s Managing Director, Anthony Dsouza, shared insights into the company’s innovations, industry adaptability, and commitment to customer-centric packaging solutions.

Meeting diverse industry needs with tailored solutions

Mr Dsouza explained that Mespack India is focused on providing solutions for a variety of industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. He stated, “We cater to all segments, where packaging is essential, with particular expertise in flexible packaging and end-of-line solutions.” Mespack’s ability to customize and modify machinery according to specific industry needs allows it to maintain a competitive edge. Mr Dsouza further emphasized that Mespack is continually innovating and evolving to meet the unique demands of each sector. “Once we introduce a solution in one industry, other sectors often adopt it, which reflects our focus on continuous innovation across multiple categories,” he added.

Showcasing compact solutions for emerging markets

At the expo, Mespack featured a compact packaging machine (RM 260) that had launched in June. "This machine is tailored for Tier 2 and Tier 3 customers who deal with a variety of products. It allows them to pack multiple products without investing in multiple machines," Mr Dsouza elaborated. The machine uses pre-made pouches, making it an efficient solution for smaller-scale operations and eliminating the need for manual packing while enhancing seal integrity and overall efficiency. The machine’s compact size and functionality resonate with manufacturers looking for versatility in their packaging operations.

Flexibility for multiple product types

When asked about the machine’s flexibility, Mr Dsouza explained that it supports various pouch sizes and product types, making it suitable for items like tea, rice, and other consumer goods. “For example, if I’m packing tea, I might need pouches in different sizes like 100 grams, 250 grams, or 500 grams. Our RM 260 machine allows a quick five-minute changeover for pouch sizes, offering manufacturers flexibility and reducing downtime,” he explained.

Catering to growing demand for Ready-to-Eat and Ready-to-Drink products

As ready-to-eat and ready-to-drink products gain popularity, Mespack India is positioned to meet this demand. “We’ve been developing solutions for these segments for years, so we don’t need to make new adaptations—our portfolio already has solutions in place,” Mr Dsouza explained. Mespack’s preparedness stems from years of expertise in flexible packaging, giving them a market advantage in this growing sector.

Addressing India's unique food packaging challenges

India’s vast array of food categories presents unique challenges for packaging manufacturers. However, Mespack’s innovative approach makes them well-suited to tackle these needs. “For companies focused on a single type of packaging design, adaptation can be challenging. But for us, continuous innovation makes adapting to new requirements straightforward,” said Mr Dsouza. This adaptability, he noted, is why major brands trust Mespack to deliver year after year, as they consistently bring new concepts to support industry demands.

Ensuring high standards in safety and hygiene

Safety and hygiene are top priorities for Mespack, particularly in the food, beverage and Pharma sectors. “Ensuring food safety requires precise workmanship and advanced technology,” Mr Dsouza shared. Each Mespack machine is designed to maintain product quality and enhance shelf life, durability, and consumer convenience. “Our focus is on creating product-centric solutions, ensuring that packaging supports product longevity and delivers a seamless user experience,” he explained.

The role of automation in modern packaging

Automation has become a game-changer in packaging, reducing reliance on human labor and ensuring consistency. “Automation is an ease of the entire packaging process, making it machine-dependent rather than human-dependent,” said Mr Dsouza. The importance of automation became especially evident during the pandemic, as labor shortages challenged productivity across industries. “With automation, manufacturers can maintain quality and productivity without interruptions,” he added, noting that the industry-wide shift toward automation is accelerating as companies recognize its value.

PackMach Asia Expo’s significance to Mespack

PackMach Asia Expo aligns closely with Mespack’s objectives, providing a platform for innovation and customer engagement. Dsouza, who played a significant role in shaping the expo, described it as a unique venue for packaging solutions. “This expo allows us to showcase our products and lets customers experience them firsthand,” he stated. Over the past three editions, Mr Dsouza has witnessed the expo’s growth, with attendance on the first day this year matching the second day of typical industry events—a testament to its success.

Staying Ahead with innovation and customer satisfaction

Mespack’s competitive strategy focuses on innovation and customer satisfaction rather than rivalry. Mr Dsouza explained, “Our philosophy is that if we satisfy our customers, they won’t look elsewhere.” Mespack considers itself its own competition, continually pushing the envelope to meet and exceed customer expectations. “We are our own competitors; if we don’t deliver, others will,” he remarked.

Expanding through strategic collaborations

To strengthen its capabilities, Mespack’s parent company, Duravant, has made strategic acquisitions, including T-TEK Material Handling, a company specializing in palletizing technology. “Duravant is expanding its portfolio to offer comprehensive, high-quality solutions,” said Dsouza. These collaborations are part of a broader strategy to provide the industry with innovative, complete solutions that address specific needs.

A vision for the future

As Mespack continues to evolve and expand, the company remains committed to advancing packaging technology for diverse industries. Reflecting on PackMach Asia Expo’s potential, Dsouza commented, “This platform is ideal for showcasing packaging machinery and innovation. I believe it has the potential to become the premier packaging event for India.”

Mespack India’s performance at PackMach Asia Expo 2024 underscored its industry leadership, setting a high standard for the future of packaging solutions. With an unwavering focus on innovation, safety, and customer satisfaction, Mespack India is poised to meet the evolving demands of the global packaging industry.
